Born in London in 1932, Uglow trained at Camberwell School of Art between 1948 and 1950, before receiving a scholarship to the Slade School of Art, where he studied under William Coldstream and was greatly influenced by the painters of the Euston Road School…
He is particularly noted for his female nude and still life subjects of which he is a meticulous painter.
Uglow’s extraordinary paintings were long in the making. He pursued the same objective year after year, using traditional methods and a narrow range of subjects – the model in the studio, portraits, still life and landscape…
